Then And Now #41 - Wish-Bone Salad Dressing

It's all about Wish-Bone Salad Dressing today. First up - two cute ads from 1960:
With the little Genie- apparently he granted wishes involving salad dressing:
They introduced some Low Calorie dressings in 1961:
And here's an ad from 1979:
Another, this one from 2004:
And - the "Now" - as in "in our refrigerator right now":
Does everybody else have a ton of different salad dressings in their fridge, or is it just us?

A World Of Good Eating

My sister found this sweet little spiral bound cookbook at a yard sale - "A World Of Good Eating" Copyright 1951 by Jack Frost Studios:
Each chapter has recipes from a different country, with the most adorable illustrations as chapter title pages:
The illustrations are by Ellen A. Nelson:
"Tested in the kitchen of a New England housewife"...
...."and Published for the Enjoyment of Many American Families"
But the best part is...

...my sister already had another one, so she gave this one to me!!
Thanks, Sis!

A Nice Dinner

Finally put my pictures on the computer! The birthday dinner was a success- and we got to see this little guy - our youngest grandson!
The Chicken Cordon Bleu, ready to go into the oven - the little one was for me!
And the finished product. Yum.
And, besides we got to see THIS little cutie!

Oh, right- I said that already. :)

My Memory Game

I think I got this game when I was 10 years old. This may have been the very first edition of this game from Milton Bradley:
I love this game - I love the images on the cards:
I loved playing it back then, and when I got older I played it with little kids:
What a kick! I didn't even remember (not consciously, anyhow) that goose with the orange background (below). It's Petunia! No wonder I was drawn to that book when I found it in the thrift store! (I wrote about it back in this post):
I recognize a number of the other pictures as being from more of my favorite children's books, too. I haven't played my Memory Game in a long time:

But I'm pretty sure that I would still enjoy playing it just as much today!

Platters

Some of my favorite platters -I'm afraid the colors in these photos is not the best. Oh, well - this one is a lovely turquoise:
A pretty restaurant china one with pine cones:
A lovely green, shown with one of my favorite restaurant china teapots and one of my demitasse cup and saucer sets:
This one is more of a coral or salmon color of pink, shown with a Hall pitcher and another demitasse set:
I don't think you can even tell that this one is a nice yellow shade! Shown with an orange (Bauer?) teapot and tumbler:
And this one was free at a yard sale last year - a nice white ironstone one, shown with two of my Harlequin cup and saucer sets:

That's about it for this post - just a bunch of pretty platters.

My Ransburg (Again) and That Darn Cat

I was looking through the book above (which is GREAT, by the way, filled with pictures from the movie), and since it has been quite awhile since I watched the film, I was happily surprised when I saw these pages, below.
See that glimpse of blue? It's a Ransburg bread box!
I have a similar style in yellow:
And here it is again behind Frank Gorshin and D.C with a matching canister on the kitchen counter:
So - the perfect excuse to bore you with more photos of some of my own Ransburg. Wish I did have the breadbox in blue , but I do have the roll-top style in black, as you can see here:
I have shown you a number of pictures in previous posts, but today's show mostly blue and black pieces, with my lone little gray canister thrown in:

Cute Coby Cards

I've had a box of these cards since I was in my early teens. I gave some away, and had kept the box and the few cards left in it all of these years:
I found another box a while back with 8 of the 10 cards still inside.
Wouldn't they be sweet framed and hanging in a child's room?
Come on - how cute are they?

Adorable.

Birthday Dinner

Today is my husband's birthday...

...so, for us, that means homemade Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner and German Chocolate Cake for dessert!
Because that's what we ALWAYS have on his birthday!
Happy Birthday, Sweetie!

Irises

Irises are so pretty. They seem like such a regal flower to me.

Here is a picture of some of ours in the kitchen window:
A pretty framed print I just found at a thrift store:

I found this vintage catalog here in the house:
I don't know why, but my father-in-law had his gardener take out most of the irises my mother-in-law had planted. Perhaps she even ordered some from this catalog. Some of the rhizomes were saved and stored, and I gave some to my sisters.
I'd love to have some pink ones!
Luckily, some do remain out along the road. And as I sit here writing at the computer, I can see some out the window - yellow ones. They make me smile. I associate them with our Daddy - he liked them, too, and we helped him plant some along the driveway at the house we grew up in. When he died, I was wishing we could have daffodils and irises for the funeral, and they weren't in season, so Mother had some made out of fabric, and gave one of each to us girls. That was the sweetest thing ever.

My Favorite Wastebaskets - Yes, Wastebaskets

I simply would rather look at and use a pretty vintage wastebasket than an unattractive new plastic one any day. So - what's a lover of vintage to do? Why, find pretty ones, of course! This first one is a beauty. I have it in the living room:
This is certainly a pretty pair. They are useful on one side of the bed, with the Kleenex holder on the nightstand:

This one with it's lovely roses is on the other side of the bed:

I had to have this Ransburg one in blue - you KNOW how I love my Ransburg! This one is used in the pantry:
Another black one with my favorite pink roses resides in the dining room under a side table:

This one with dogwood flowers on a blue background is in the guest room:
I picked this one up at a thrift shop for $1.00. While not as colorful as the others, it's still very nice looking - so I use in a less conspicuous place than it's counterparts:

Yep, I've got some mighty nice wastebaskets, that's for sure!
